Mount Tilley is a 1900 m high mountain with a flattened and snow-capped summit in the east of the West Antarctic Alexander I Island . It rises 11 km south of Mount Tyrrell and 5 km inland from George VI Sound .
The first aerial photos of the mountain were taken in 1936 during the British Graham Land Expedition under the direction of the Australian polar explorer John Rymill . The Falklands Islands Dependencies Survey carried out a survey in 1948. It is named after the British mineralogist and petrologist Cecil Edgar Tilley (1894–1974) from the University of Cambridge .
