Mourad Medelci

Mourad Medelci ( Arabic مراد مدلسي, DMG Murād Madalsī ; * April 30, 1943 in Tlemcen ; † January 28, 2019 ) was an Algerian politician and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Algeria from June 2007 to September 2013 . Since then he has held the office of Chairman of the Constitutional Council.

Life

Medelci studied economics at the University of Algiers and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1966 and a master's degree in 1968. From 1970 to 1980 he worked in the private sector before being appointed Secretary General of the Ministry of Commerce in 1980.

From 1988 to 1989 Medelci was Minister for Trade and from 1990 to 1991 Deputy Minister for Budget. He was again Minister of Commerce from 1999 to 2001, then Minister of Finance from 2001 to 2002. From 2002 to May 2005 he was Advisor to the President, Abd al-Aziz Bouteflika . In May 2005 he was appointed Minister of Finance; he held this position until he became Secretary of State on June 4, 2007.

Mourad Medelci was married and had five children.
