Ramtane Lamamra ( Arabic رمطان لعمامرة; * June 15, 1952 in Amizour , Bejaia Province ) is an Algerian politician and Foreign Minister of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria from September 2013 to May 2017 and briefly in March 2019.

Life

Lamamra attended the National School of Administration (Diplomatic Section) . He was the Algerian ambassador to Portugal , the USA , Austria , Ethiopia and Djibouti . He served as Permanent Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency and UNIDO . He was Permanent Representative of Algeria to the United Nations in New York, in the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and in the Organization for African Unity (OAU) in Addis Ababa . From August 1, 2005 to July 7, 2007 he was State Secretary in the Algerian Foreign Ministry. He has been Commissioner for Peace and Security in the African Union since 2007 .

On September 11, 2013, Algeria's President Abd al-Aziz appointed Bouteflika Lamamra as foreign minister as part of a cabinet reshuffle. He held this office until May 2017.

Lamamra is married and has one child.

Awards

Lamamra has been the holder of the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of Portugal since 2006 .
