Youcef Yousfi ( Arabic يوسف يوسفي, DMG Yūsuf Yūsufī ; * October 2, 1941 in Batna ) is an Algerian politician . In spring 2014, he was acting head of government of Algeria for a few weeks.

Life

Yousfi studied physics and business administration at the École nationale supérieure des industries chimiques in Nancy . In Algiers he worked as a university lecturer. In the late 1970s he became Vice President of Sonatrach , which he became Chairman in 1985. In 1997 he became Minister for Oil and Energy in Algeria for the first time and entered the National People's Assembly as a member. In 1999 he became President of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries . From 1999 to 2000 he was Algerian foreign minister. From 2006 to 2008 he was the representative of the Algerian government at the United Nations. Since 2010 he has been Minister for Energy and Mining in Algeria. After Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal resigned to lead President Bouteflika's re-election campaign , Yousfi was appointed Acting Prime Minister on March 13, 2014. On April 28, Abdelmalik Sellal was again Prime Minister. Yousfi is married and has three children.
