Mouloud Hamrouche

Mouloud Hamrouche ( Arabic مولود حمروش, DMG Mūlūd Ḥamrūš ; * January 3, 1943 in Constantine ) was Algerian Prime Minister / Prime Minister from 1989 to 1991 .

Hamrouche was a member of the FLN leadership for many years . That is why he was appointed Prime Minister by President Chadli Bendjedid . During his term of office he supported its reform activities.

After the oil price plummeted in the mid-1980s, the central administration economy in Algeria could no longer be sustained. So a reorientation was necessary, the way to a free market economy was in the hands of Hamrouche.

In the later 1990s, he fell out with the party because of its proximity to the military . He ran as an independent candidate in the 1999 presidential election, but only came in fifth with 314,160 votes (3.1%).
