Mr. Blabbermouth is an American documentary film directed by Basil Wrangell . The 19-minute short film was produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer with the support of the United States Office of War Information . He was supposed to warn the home front of dangerous rumors.

action

The film is about "Mr. Blabbermouth ", to German about" Mr. Chatterbox ", represented by various people who spread rumors during the Second World War and thus endanger morale. For example, that the US fleet was down after the attack on Pearl Harbor or that the Japanese could produce a lot more steel. The film contrasts the claims with the correct numbers. It also shows how the Americans produce rubber on the home front .

The next rumor is that the Japanese and the National Socialists were trimmed for war from an early age and that the Americans could not keep up as a peace-loving people. The speaker now shows how the peace-loving Chinese people rebel against the Japanese invaders and, from one day to the next, surround their arms industry and reflect on Sun Tzu . It is followed by the Russian troops, who bravely fight Nazi Germany.

This time a woman follows as a “chatterbox” who suspects a family of “doing something”. In contrast to France and Norway, the Federal Bureau of Investigation would have had three years to prepare for internal conflicts. In addition, the traitors in the USA are pure amateurs. In Germany, on the other hand, the Fifth Column would fight on the American side.

The next rumor speaks of the Nazis' secret weapons . These rumors are simply not true. Rather, the spokesman points out the new inventions that are now being used: parachutes, submarines , battleships and dive bombers .

In fact, propaganda is the Nazis' real secret weapon. A chatterbox is shown speaking of treason in one's own ranks. This is followed by images of Nazi propaganda during the Weimar Republic and after the seizure of power , such as the book burning in Germany in 1933 . The spokesman referred to the Munich Agreement , in which Hitler had also deliberately spread rumors that ultimately led to the break-up of Czechoslovakia . However, this could not happen to the USA, the documentary continues and refers to the 9th State of the Union Address by Franklin D. Roosevelt . At the end of a chatterbox, a shaving brush is put in the mouth.
