Mr. Moto and the Jungle Prince (AKA: Mr. Moto Takes a Chance ) is an American crime film from 1938 by Norman Foster in the eight-part series about by Peter Lorre shown Japanese detective Mr. Kentaro Moto . The films are all based on John Phillips Marquand's Mr. Moto stories .
action
During a flight around the world, Victoria Mason crashes her plane over French Indochina; Mr. Moto, posing as an archaeologist, quickly recognizes the attempt at deception. Two American film enthusiasts also saw the crash and smelled the chance of film material for sale.
Victoria is brought from the crash site to Raja Ali, who likes to present himself with her - against the advice of the traditionally oriented priest Boko - in front of the American camera. During the recording, the Raja's favorite wife collapses dead; Boko accuses the filming of the film and wants to sacrifice the film team to the god Shiva .
But during the primitive ritual to "prove guilty" of the Americans, an old guru appears from the temple of Shiva. He shows amazing skills and causes the Americans to be set free. Nevertheless, he wins Boko's trust.
It soon turns out that Moto is on the trail of a conspiracy to armed resistance against the French colonial power; The leader of this movement is Bokor, who also murdered the Raja's wife.
But even the Raja deceived by Bokor is not as simple-minded as one believes in his environment. He shot down the carrier pigeons with which Moto wanted to inform his headquarters, and is accordingly well informed. After he has declared his intention to take Victoria into his harem instead of his dead favorite wife, all parties come to a confrontation in the Shiva temple, whose basement serves as the rebels' armory. The old guru is exposed as Mr. Moto and Victoria as a British agent. Finally, Mr. Moto manages to blow up the arsenal with the Raja and Bokor.
Trivia
The film was shot as the second film in the Moto series, but only came out as the fourth.
