Mt. Harlan AVA has been a recognized wine-growing region in the US state of California since November 15, 1990 and part of the supra-regional Central Coast AVA .

The vineyards are spread over the administrative district of San Benito County and are located within the Gabilan Mountains in close proximity to the Pinnacles National Park . The vineyards are at an altitude of 550 to 670 m above sea level. NN on a limestone subsoil. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives' Denomination of Origin recognition is based on a petition from Josh Jensen of the Calera Wine Company, the region's only winery . Jensen founded his company where the growing conditions are almost identical to those in Burgundy . This also includes the procurement of land.
