The Mubadala World Tennis Championship is a men's tennis tournament in the United Arab Emirates . The invitation tournament has been held on hard court in Abu Dhabi since 2009 and serves as preparation for the Australian Open . It always takes place around the turn of the year. Six players take part in the competition, with the top two seeded having a bye to the semi-finals. The winner of the first edition was the Brit Andy Murray . Rafael Nadal is the record winner of the tournament with four wins.

Before 2011 the tournament was called the Capitala World Tennis Championship .
