Muhammad Ali Sorcar

Muhammad Ali Sorcar (born November 21, 1960 ) is a Bangladeshi diplomat .

He is married and has two children.

In 1983 he received his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Mymensingh Medical College, University of Dhaka . In 1991 he received his Masters in International Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University , Medford, Massachusetts, USA. In 1992 he completed advanced training in public administration at the Kennedy School of Government , Harvard University , Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

Career

In December 1989 he joined the foreign service and was employed in the Western Europe department . From May 1995 to December 2001 he was the first-class delegation secretary next to the UN headquarters . He was the coordinator of the Least Developed Countries (LDC) of the United Nations. From 2000 to 2001 he was a representative on the United Nations Security Council . From January 2002 to September 2004 he was Director of the United Nations Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Bangladesh), where he oversaw diplomatic initiatives in connection with the demands of Bangladesh on the continental shelf of the Gulf of Bengal . From October 2004 to February 2006 he was envoy at the embassy in Brussels . From March 2006 to November 2008 he was a permanent representative at the headquarters of the United Nations. He wrote an analysis of Bangladesh's claim to the Bay of Bengal continental shelf at the University of New Hampshire, USA. From December 2008 to October 2010 he was Director General of the International Organizations and America Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Bangladesh). From October 2010 to October 2013 he was ambassador to The Hague (Netherlands) and at the same time accredited ambassador to Warsaw (Poland), Zagreb , (Croatia) and Sarajevo , ( Bosnia and Herzegovina ). From November 2013 to October 2016 he was ambassador to Berlin and at the same time accredited ambassador to Vienna , Austria, Prague , the Czech Republic, Budapest (Hungary), Ljubljana (Slovenia) and Bratislava (Slovakia).
