Muhammad al-Mudiyahki ( Arabic محمد المضيحكي, DMG Muḥammad al-Muḍiyaḥkī , often Mohamad Al-Modiahki , with the World Chess Federation FIDE Mohammed Ahmed Al-Mudahka ; * June 1, 1974 in Qatar ) is a Qatari chess master and the first grandmaster of his country.

Life

Al-Mudiyahki celebrated his first international success in 1986 when he finished fourth in the U12 World Youth Championship. By the end of the 1980s, he made the leap to the top of the Qatari players. He has been the undisputed best player in his country since the mid-1990s. In 1998 FIDE awarded him the title of Grand Master. He took part in the FIDE Knockout World Championship four times, each time being eliminated in the first round: against Ruslan Ponomarjow ( Las Vegas 1999), Alex Yermolinsky ( New Delhi 2000), Judit Polgar ( Moscow 2001 ) and against Zoltán Almási ( Tripolis 2004).

The greatest successes of his international career include tournament victories in Agadir 1997, Tunis 1997, Andorra 1999. Also shared first places in Calcutta 1995 and Benasque 1997. Al-Modiahki won four times (1997, 1999, 2000 and 2001) the zone tournament of the Arab countries , He also won the championships of the Arab countries in 1994, 1997, 2000 and 2002 (shared with Hicham Hamdouchi ). In 1993 he received the gold medal for his result at the Asian Team Championship in Malaysia .

The Arab Chess Federation awarded him the title of “Player of the Century of the Arab Countries” for his sporting success. Grandmaster al-Mudiyahki has been married to the Chinese world champion from 2001 to 2004, Zhu Chen, since 2001 . Both are trained by the top Moldovan player Viktor Bologan .

National team

Since 1988 he has participated twelve times (eleven times on the first board) for Qatar in the Chess Olympiad , achieving the best individual result on the top board in 1996 and 1998 , the third best in 1994 and 2002 . He also took part with Qatar in the Asian team championships in 1991, 1993 and 1995, in the chess competitions of the Asian Games in 2006 and 2010 , in the chess competitions in the Indoor Asian Games in 2007 and 2009, in the chess competitions in the Pan-Arab Games in 2007 and 2011 and in the team championships of the Golf Cooperation Council 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008, all of which it won with Qatar.
