In the course of the Crimean crisis in 2014, it was publicly discussed that a German company - Rheinmetall - is building a very modern training and education center for the Russian army in Mulino. In June 2011 the Russian Defense Minister visited the GÜZ in Letzlingen. In the same summer, Rheinmetall received the order. In the summer of 2015, the Federal Minister of Economics revoked the export license for the GÜZ.

The M7 Moscow –Nizhny Novgorod– Kazan - Ufa highway (part of the European route 22 ) passes a few kilometers south of the settlement, as does the Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod railway line , from whose Ilyino station a freight connection leads to Mulino.
