Mundingen
City of Emmendingen
The coat of arms of Mundingen bears on the "sword side", completely against the order, not the sign of rule (the margrave's sloping beam), but the Mundinger oak. Presumably to avoid confusion with the very similar coat of arms of Sexau.

history

Mundingen was mentioned for the first time in 1139. For this year there is a deed of transfer to the monastery of St. Peter in the Black Forest, in which a certain Rodolf de Mundingen was one of the many witnesses present. Viticulture was first mentioned in a royal document from May 28, 1207, where King Philip of Swabia confirmed the sale of the Mönchhof. Viticulture in Mundingen has a tradition of more than 800 years.

The first finds of human settlements are, however, much older: In 1979, pottery shards and an arrowhead were found that are around 4000 years old. During road construction a cemetery was found with around 150 graves, the age of which was dated to 1300 years.

On January 1, 1974, Mundingen was incorporated into the district town of Emmendingen.
