General Zuazua is a municipality in the center of the Mexican state of Nuevo León . General Zuazua is the seat of the municipality . The municipality had 55,213 inhabitants in 2010, its area is 184.8 km² .
The community was named after the general Juan Zuazua , who is revered as a hero of the reform war for the constitution of 1857 . General Zuazua is known for its rodeos and local cuisine with dishes such as Empalmes , Empanadas or Hojarazcas.

General Zuazua is centrally located in the state of Nuevo León, about 35 km northeast of Monterrey . The municipality is located at an altitude between 300 m and 700 m in the catchment area of the Río Bravo del Norte . INEGI counts 92% of the municipal area to the physiographic region of the coastal plains of the Gulf and 8% to the Sierra Madre Oriental . The predominant soil types are Leptosol and Kastanozem with 36% and 32% respectively . 53% of the municipality is taken up by thorn savannah, 35% is used as pastureland.
Neighboring municipalities are Ciénega de Flores , Higueras , Marín , Pesquería , Apodaca and Salinas Victoria .
history
In 1660, the captain Enrique Gutiérrez de Lara founded the Hacienda de San Pedro, which served as a fortress in the fight against the Comanches from the end of the 18th century . In 1848, General Mariano Arista proposed 500 Comanches, which is remembered by an inscription at the entrance to the hacienda. On March 2, 1863, the Villa de la Hacienda de St. Elena was founded nearby by Santiago Vidaurri, then governor of the state of Nuevo León , which was later renamed Villa del General Zuazua .

Attractions
The church of Santa Elena de la Cruz , built in 1875 and restored in 1979, is dedicated to the patron saint of General Zuazuas. It is located in the main square of the place where the Feria de la Hojarasca is held in October .
About 5 km outside the main town is the Hacienda San Pedro, which was acquired in 1984 by the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL) and restored from 1986 to 1990. Here is the Centro de Información de Historia Regional (information center on the history of the region) with a museum and a library. A small observatory was also built on the site in 1997 .
