Tenancingo is a municipality in the Mexican state of Tlaxcala . The municipality extends over an area of ​​12.1 km², the 2010 census counted 11,763 inhabitants in the municipality. The administrative seat and largest place in the municipality is Tenancingo of the same name .

geography

The Municipio Tenancingo is located in the southwest of the state at an altitude of 2200  m to 2400  m . It is entirely part of the Physiographic Province of the Sierra Volcánica Transversal . The municipality drains completely over the Río Balsas into the Pacific . With 53% of the municipality area, the alluvial soil dominates in the municipality, soils in the municipality are Luvisol (36%) and Cambisol (17%). 47% of the municipality are occupied by settlements, 35% are used for agriculture, 18% are forested.

The municipality of Tenancingo borders on the municipalities of Papalotla de Xicohténcatl and San Pablo del Monte and, to the south and west, on the Mexican state of Puebla .

In the 2010 census, 11,763 people in 2,443 residential units were counted in the municipality. Of these, 474 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , including 389 speakers of the Nahuatl . Almost ten percent of the population were illiterate. 4,055 residents of Tenancingos were registered as economically active, of which about 73% were men and 4.3% were unemployed. 12.5% ​​of the population lived in extreme poverty.
