Muriel Millard

Muriel Millard (born December 3, 1922 in Montreal , † November 30, 2014 ) was a Canadian actress, singer, dancer and painter.

Millard won the 1938 Les Jeunes Talents Catelli competition on the CKAC radio station. She then appeared in shows at Rose Ouellette's Théâtre Nacional and on tours with Jean Grimaldi's theater company, she imitated French singers such as Josephine Baker , Lucienne Boyer , Mireille and Mistinguett . She had her first big success in 1942 with the French song Y'a pas de cerises en Alaska .

In the next few years she appeared in cabarets in Québec and New York ( Old Europe ) and participated in numerous radio programs, including Le Gala humoristique et musical à la salle paroissiale on CKAC. Radiomonde magazine voted her Miss radio in 1950 . In the 1950s she appeared in television shows such as Feux de joie , Music-Hall , Porte ouverte and Miss Music-Hall, as well as in variety shows and became la pure du music-hall .

In her show Gai Gai la belle province , she appeared in a ballet based on Gilles Vigneault's song Jack Monnoloy in 1966 , and in the same year she appeared in Louiguy's musical comedy La Quincaillère de Chicago at the Théâtre St. Denis in Montreal. She had other appearances in Vive la Canadienne at Expo 67 , Terre des femmes at Comédie-Canadienne and the Latin Quarter in New York (1967) and om Avec la femme at Man and His World in 1968. He has been writing since the early 1960s she wrote her own lyrics, including successful titles such as the Hymne du Québec for the Télé Métropole competition.

From 1969 Millard withdrew from the stage and turned to painting: The preferred motifs of her acrylic painting were still lifes and portraits of clowns. She sang again in nightclubs for a brief period in the 1970s, and she appeared on TV shows occasionally. In 1975 she took on a role in Marcel Lefebvre's film Mustang . In the same year she recorded the LP Faut que jeunesse se passe , further LPs followed on the Trans-Canada label .
