Martin Murtfeld

Martin Murtfeld (born January 12, 1935 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German banker and promoter of international cultural exchange.

Career

Murtfeld completed his studies in economics , banking, finance and statistics at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main with a degree in economics and a Dr. rer. pole. from. He completed a post-graduate degree at the Institut des Sciences Politiques , Paris.

In 1961 he joined the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau , Frankfurt am Main, and devoted himself to balance of payments and long-term development loans to southern Europe, Southeast Asia and Latin America . He advised on the establishment of development banks, u. a. in Singapore , and was a member of government delegations and the Interministerial Capital Aid Committee, Bonn.

In 1971 Murtfeld moved to the headquarters of Deutsche Bank , Frankfurt am Main. As a member of the executive board for the Group's international commercial business, Murtfeld was responsible for the Group's business with the Middle East , Africa and Latin America . Later, risk management , financial institutions and country risk are added around the world. In 1982 Murtfeld became a member of the International Advisory Group on debt settlement in Mexico and then Brazil, and in 1991/92 he chaired the “London Club” for Bulgaria. He was also a member of committees at the UN, the IIF , Washington DC, the Paris International Chamber of Commerce and an expert at the Interministerial Committee on Investment Guarantees, Bonn. He served on the boards of directors of London joint venture banks for Brazil , Mexico and Saudi Arabia and an equity fund for Mexico.

Murtfeld was elected First Vice Governor of the Council of Europe Development Bank , Paris, as a candidate of the federal government from 1995 . He carried out a fundamental reorientation of lending and deposit business , treasury as well as risk management and auditing. The aim was to consolidate the bank's reputation in the international financial community and with rating agencies (triple AAA).

Since 2002, consultations have taken place on the initiative of international institutions on corporate governance ( China ) and system issues of housing finance ( Serbia and   Ukraine ). As a lecturer at the Institute for Banking and Finance at the Free University of Berlin , Murtfeld taught "Rating" (WS 2002/3) and "Banking aspects of international financial institutions" WS 2004/5). His lectures deal with questions of financial markets and real estate finance as well as European integration.

Cultural engagement

Martin Murtfeld represents a model of the universal banker that takes into account the overall economic well-being and the culture of his area of ​​activity. Together with his wife Margarethe, collector and former gallery owner, he devoted himself to painters and musicians from Brazil, Central and Eastern Europe and, most recently, from France.
