Mushtisht ( Albanian also Mushtishti , or Mushtishtë or Mushtishta ; Serbian Мушутиште Mušutište ) is a village in southwest Kosovo , a few kilometers southeast of Suhareka and northeast of Prizren . It is located in the eastern part of the Metochien plain (Albanian Dukagjin ), as well as at the foot of the northern foothills of the great Šar Planina Mountains. It belongs to the Suhareka municipality .
history
After the conquest of Kosovo by the Kingdom of Serbia during the First Balkan War in 1912, the Serbian government set up a local military administration . A separate community Mušutište was created, which included Mushtisht and the village of Delloc . The municipality belonged to the Srez Podgora of the superior Okrug Prizren . This administrative division existed until January 6, 1929, when the area became part of the newly created Vardarska banovina within the Kingdom of Yugoslavia .
During the Kosovo war in 1998 and 1999 the village was largely destroyed. The Serbian Orthodox monastery Bogorodica Odigitija from 1315, which stood above the village, was also destroyed by explosive devices in 1999 by Albanian extremists. Before the war, around 5500 Albanians and 1200 Serbs lived in the village. In the meantime, almost all Serbs have fled, been expelled or emigrated. In 2000, Mushtisht had 5642 residents.
