Mustafa Arif Deymer
Mustafa Arif Bey , since the naming law Deymer (* 1874 in Selânik ; † 1957 ), was a high-ranking statesman in the Ottoman Empire and in the Turkish Republic .
Mustafa Arif became Ottoman Minister of the Interior in 1917 after Talât Pasha resigned from this post. After the genocide of the Armenians , Arif had formed a government commission in December 1918 to investigate these events ordered by the Committee for Unity and Progress . On March 18, 1919, the commission found that 800,000 Armenians died during the First World War . This information was also considered reliable by other Turkish historians, according to Yusuf Hikmet Bayur , who used the numbers in his research and his writings.
"The atrocities committed against the Armenians reduced our country to a gigantic slaughterhouse"
From October 21, 1919 to August 19, 1921 Mustafa Arif Bey was President of the Danıştay (Turkish State Council). In 1921 he was again Minister of the Interior and Education. After the founding of the Republic of Turkey by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk , he served in 1924 in the commission that regulated the population exchange between Greece and Turkey on behalf of the Red Cross .
