Mustafa Yeneroğlu

Mustafa Yeneroğlu (born July 1, 1975 in Bayburt , Turkey ) is a German-Turkish lawyer and member of the Demokrasi ve Atılım Partisi (DEVA) in the Turkish parliament .

Career

Mustafa Yeneroğlu was born in Turkey, but came to Germany with his parents when he was one year old. He describes himself as a classic guest worker child and average Otto consumer . After graduating from high school , he studied law in Cologne and Izmir . In addition to Turkish citizenship, he has also had German citizenship since the early 1990s.

From 2011 to 2014 he was deputy general secretary and then until spring 2015 general secretary of the transnational Islamic movement Millî Görüş . His predecessor was Oğuz Üçüncü . His main topics included the concerns of Muslims in Europe and migration policy.

In the parliamentary elections in Turkey on June 7, 2015 , Yeneroğlu was elected to the Grand National Assembly for the ruling AKP party of Istanbul's third district . He was re-elected in the early parliamentary elections on November 1, 2015 . In addition, as a member of parliament he was temporarily chairman of the parliamentary human rights commission. With regard to his function as chairman of the commission, Yeneroğlu decided not to run again in favor of his general parliamentary work.

In German-speaking countries, he was best known for numerous TV appearances in various programs (including stern TV , hart but fair , Maybrit Illner , Anne Will , Im Zentrum ), in which he was the head of the coordination center for the foreign elections, the controversial constitutional referendum in Turkey supported in 2017 .

Since 2016 he has been a regular interlocutor for Deutschlandfunk .

He left the AKP in November 2019. Yeneroğlu said that party leader Erdoğan had suggested that he quit. From 2016 on, he was considered an internal party critic who also expressed his concerns in public, especially with regard to the human rights situation in Turkey. He was introduced in March 2020 as one of the party-founding members of the Demokrasi ve Atılım Partisi.

Yeneroğlu is married and has two children.
