Model boy
Musterknabe , the lesser-known but more general version of the term model pupil, is a term largely coined by Paul von Schönthan at the end of the 19th century for exemplary boys who know how to behave and who are actually or at least apparently disciplined, educated, distinguished and are polite.
term
A narrower term for the model student is the Primus Omnium , which designates the high school graduate with the best grades. Insofar as someone stylizes himself as a model boy , the term is used ironically and negatively.
use
After the Second World War, Walter Scherf revived this term with his propriety book for boys , which has found its way into numerous literary books to this day.
The term was even more popular thanks to the film with Gunther Philipp and Peter Alexander , known under this title , a parody of the “Feuerzangenbowle” in the typical “Peter Alexander style”.
Figurative meaning of the term
It is also increasingly being used in countries and nations, so that, for example, Germany, Japan, China and most of the EU countries could be referred to as model boys within the international community. In this context one speaks of the model boy of the nation or the republic . The opposite would be: the problem child of the nation or something similar.
