“Hexentanz” is what the locals call a passage through a steeply sloping Nagelfluh cover of the Lattenberg. The incline was always a difficult obstacle to overcome for the carters, and the ravine caused annoyance and annoyance for the farmers. Through the narrow passage the wind always hit the plain with force and tousled it as if runaway witches had danced through the neatly prepared haystacks.

traffic

The railway line from Zurich to Rapperswil , which is used by the S7 , separates the houses from Lake Zurich . Three railway underpasses in the immediate vicinity of the Mutzmalen lead to the Seestrasse and the lake. The VZO's "Strandbad" bus stop is on Seestrasse ( Hauptstrasse 17 ) and serves as a connection for public transport to the Stäfa lido. The nearby Sonnenfeld bus stop is mostly used to visit the Männedorf lido.

history

In Roman times the Roman road led from Zurich ( Turicum ) to Kempraten ( Centum Prata ) and Rapperswil across the area. Mutzmalen's houses date mainly from the 17th to 18th centuries. In 2004 the newest building was built, an extension to a wine grower's house built in 1736. This was freed from subsequent installations in order to be able to expose the old substance.

economy

On the weekends, many walkers use the paths through the semi-circular vineyards. A lookout point was set up on an elevation at the northeast end of the Lattenberg. The area around the Mutzmalen is used for wine growing. Among other things, the grape varieties Blauburgunder , Chardonnay , Riesling x Sylvaner and Garanoir grow here .

During the Second World War , the vines had to be sacrificed to the cultivation battle. After the war, however, new vines were planted quickly and today there are several wine producers again. An orchard also extends from the Mutzmalen to the Männedorf border. The Mutzmalen and their surroundings have become a recreational area for the surrounding communities. In winter you can toboggan on Lattenbergstrasse; it will not be evacuated.
