Polish Military Technology Museum

The Muzeum Polskiej Techniki Wojskowej (German: Museum of Polish Military Technology ) is located in the Czerniakowski Fort in Sadyba in the Mokotów district of Warsaw . Together with the Katyń Museum in Warsaw , which is also located here , it is a branch of the Museum of the Polish Army . The museum has been partially closed since January 22nd, 2009 due to structural defects in the fort, especially the interior rooms. All exhibits set up outside can still be viewed.

Since the beginning of the 1990s, the former fort has served as a warehouse for heavy war equipment for the Army Museum. At the end of the 1990s, the collection was opened to the public for viewing. In addition to the large outdoor equipment used primarily in the Polish army, there are four permanent exhibitions in the rooms of the fort:

  • The Polish Panzer Weapons 1918-1945 - around 200 exhibits on the Polish armored forces from 1918 to 1939, on the tank activities of the Polish Armed Forces in the West (PSZ) from 1939 to 1945, the armored departments of the Home Army and the Polish armored forces deployed on the Eastern Front People's Army from 1943 to 1945.
  • The Polish Air Force 1917-2000 - about 300 exhibits from the early days of Polish military aviation (1917-1920), on the Polish Air Force during the September fighting of the German invasion of Poland , on the Polish Armed Forces in the West (1939-1945), on operations by Eastern Front 1943 to 1945 as well as to the Polish Air Force after 1945 including Polish participation in space travel.
  • The history of Polish military chaplaincy - the first permanent exhibition in Poland on the 400-year history of this institution
  • The history of Fort IX (Czerniakowski) - from its construction in 1883 to the present day with a focus on the fighting in September 1939 and during the Warsaw Uprising in 1944, which affected the fort.

Outdoor area

In the open area of ​​the museum, in the former courtyard and on the upper casemates, there is an extensive collection of tanks and armored vehicles, cannons, howitzers and mortars, rockets and rocket launchers, radar and flight control systems. Various bombs are also shown and a Soyuz 30 landing capsule. After all, around 20 aircraft and helicopters are on display.

The tanks include the following models: T-34 , T-34/85 , T-55 U, T-55AM, T-72 , IS-2 , IS-3 , PT-76 , M4A1 Grizzly , ISU-152 , SU-85 , SU-76 , ASU-85 and a Leopard 1 .

The collection of armored military vehicles includes the following vehicles: Universal Carrier , model T-16, Humber Scout Car , BRDM-1 , BRDM-2 , BTR-40 , BTR-60 , BTR-152 , BTR-152W, TOPAS -2AT, FUG , various OT-64 SKOT models as well as an MT-LB .

The following models, among others, are presented on aircraft and helicopters: MiG-15 , Lim-2 (MiG-15bis), Lim-5 (MiG-17F), Lim-6bis , SBLim-2A , MiG-23MF , MiG-21MS , MiG -21PS, MiG-21US, MiG-21SPS, MiG-21UM, Su-20 , Su-7BM , Su-7BKL, Su-7U, IL-28 , Mi-24D , PZL Mi-2R , Mi-2T, Mi- 2URN, An-2 , Jak-23 and fragments of the aircraft B-17 and B-24 .

The 30 artillery weapons include a ZSU-23-4 , a ZSU-57-2 , an M107 SPG and a BM-14 .
