My Fate is a Finnish alternative metal band from Tampere that was formed in 2000.

history

The band was founded in March 2000 by the guitarist Jaakko Jarvensivu (born September 12, 1981), the bassist Roope Lehtinen (born June 17, 1980) and the drummer Vilho Rajala (born November 18, 1981). Jarvensivu occasionally played keyboard passages for the band. Before the founding, Rajala and Lehtinen were active in the band Wompuco. The singer Antti Ojanen (born May 10, 1981) joined the trio in August, before the line-up was expanded to a quintet in November by Roope's brother, the guitarist Mikko Lehtinen (born December 12, 1982). This was followed in the same year by a first EP , which was recorded in August in Fantom Studio under the direction of Henkka Wirsell , under the name Bloodstains . In 2001 a second EP called Sinking was released . In 2002, the debut album Happiness Is Fiction was recorded and released in Finland in 2003 via Firebox Records . In the USA , the album was distributed in 2004 through Crash Music . These two recordings were also made in Fantom Studio under Hekka's direction. In 2004 the group took part in the first Sauna Open Air . In the same year she founded her own label My Fate Music, which in 2005 released the album Kill the Light . In 2006 Ojanen announced his departure, after which he was replaced by Jukka Ruostila a few months later. In 2010, the band's own label released the third album Room for Regret , the distribution in Finland was taken over by Supersounds Music .

style

Alex Henderson from Allmusic assigned the band to alternative metal, which combines elements from death , black and thrash metal as well as hardcore punk . The music is full of contrasts. At times it is melodic in a dark, eerie way, at other times it is wild and fast. The vocals consist of clear and conventional passages as well as demonic growling as it is typical for death and black metal as well as grindcore . Martin Popoff wrote in his book The Collector's Guide of Heavy Metal Volume 4: The '00s about Happiness Is Fiction that it contains Thrash Metal with European characteristics with progressive elements. The clear vocals sound like gothic and doom metal and also have a depressive character. The growls sounded rather ordinary. At times, the vocals can only be classified somewhere between clear vocals and growling. Most of the songs are more medium-speed and groove- oriented. Popoff was reminded of the early Fear Factory because of the experimental nature and precision of the game . It seems to him as if the band is trying to play metalcore , but the result is a typical Finnish metal album. Marcus Schleutermann from Rock Hard noticed that the band has many different influences and tries to bring them all into the album. She says she is technically adept and talented as a composer. However, there is no capable producer who mixes the elements homogeneously. The group makes use of modern metal , melodic death metal , hardcore punk, gothic metal, crossover and funk rock and in the course of the album there are tonal similarities to Tiamat , Machine Head and Life of Agony . The singing was "partly roared roughly, partly sung beautifully, partly pathetically emerged from the crypt". Due to the large number of different influences, however, the band does not manage to give the songs their own note. According to Reini from stormbringer.at , the most noticeable feature of MMVI is the vocals, which range from growling to screaming to clear vocals. Musically, he assigned the music to death and thrash metal, whereby the group could avoid slipping into metalcore realms despite the variable vocals. The song material is enriched by influences from old-school hardcore punk and recurring melancholy passages.
