Myriam François-Cerrah

Myriam François-Cerrah , formerly Emilie François (* December 1982 in London ) is a British-French freelance journalist, working for Al Jazeera , New Statesman and The Independent , among others .

As an actress, she appeared in the films Sense and Sensibility (1995) in the role of Margaret Dashwood, in Paws (1997) and in New Year's Day (2001) in the role of Heather. She converted to the Islamic faith in 2003 . She was a regular guest on BBC One 's The Big Questions from 2008 to 2011 and on Sunday Morning Live in 2015 . As a journalist, she created a BBC1 documentary about the Srebrenica massacre that aired on July 6, 2015. Another documentary of hers, The Truth About Muslim Marriage , which aired on Channel 4 in 2017 and deals with Muslim marriages in the UK, was nominated for an Asian Media Award in 2018 for Best Investigative Journalism.

She holds a BA in Social and Political Science from Cambridge University and a Masters of Arts from Georgetown University with distinction. Francois-Cerrah did her doctoral thesis, PhD , on The Movement for Unicity and Reform: between da'wa and Dissent at the University of Oxford and published it in 2016. She worked as a visiting professor at Harvard (2014), Birmingham, (2014) , at Luther College (2015) and Kingston University in the United Kingdom (2012–2014).
