Nándor Knauz

Nándor Knauz (German Ferdinand Knauz ; born October 13, 1831 in Altofen , Hungary , Austrian Empire ; † April 26, 1898 in Pressburg , Hungary, Austria-Hungary ) was a Hungarian Roman Catholic clergyman and historian .

Nándor Knauz came from a Hungarian family. After high school in Gran he studied Catholic theology and philosophy in Tyrnau and Gran. In 1854 he received the sacrament of ordination and worked as a teacher in Tyrnau, then as a prefect (teacher) at the Emericianum in Pressburg. In 1856 Nándor Knauz received a provisional position at the collegiate chapter in Pressburg. On September 12, 1859, he discovered the grave of Peter Pazmany in the crypt of St. Martin's Cathedral in Pressburg .

In 1860, Knauz was appointed prefect of the diocesan library of the Archdiocese of Gran. In 1871 Knauz became a member of the local cathedral chapter. In 1878 he became abbot of the monastery of S. Salvatoris in Lekér and in 1881 archdechant of Komarn. In 1890 Nándor Knauz was appointed titular bishop of Scardona and in 1895 also provost in St. Martin's Cathedral in Pressburg.

He died in 1898 and was buried in the Andreas cemetery in Preßburg, where his grave tablet has been preserved to this day.

Nándor Knauz was a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He published numerous publications on Hungarian history and church history.
