N'gourti is a department in the region of Diffa in Niger .
geography
The department is located in the south-east of the country and borders on Chad . It extends over the area of the rural municipality of the same name, N'Gourti . In elections to the National Assembly, the department of N'Gourti forms one of eight special constituencies in the country. While the regular constituencies, in which a certain number of MPs are elected, correspond to the eight regions of Niger, those entitled to vote in the special constituencies each elect their own MP.
history
The department goes back to the administrative post ( poste administratif ) of N'Gourti, which was established in 1962. In 2011, the administrative post was removed from the N'Guigmi department and elevated to the N'Gourti department.
population
According to the 2012 census, the N'Gourti department has 51,767 inhabitants. From 2001 to 2012 the population increased by an average of 7.4% annually (nationwide: 3.9%).

At the head of the department is a prefect (French: préfet ) who is appointed by the Council of Ministers on the proposal of the Minister of the Interior .
