course
The Carretera Nacional N-II led from the capital Madrid via Saragossa , Lleida , Barcelona , Girona to the French border, where it was connected to Départementstraße 900 , which was signposted as French national road 9 until 2006 . This route was determined around 1940. With this determination it was carried out east of Barcelona via Granollers; only later is the transfer to the current route through the Mediterranean coastal towns.
In many sections, the national road has already been replaced or expanded to become the A-2 motorway. These are the Madrid - Saragossa and Lleida - Barcelona sections. Between Saragossa and Lleida, the still existing N-II runs parallel to the AP-2 motorway , between Barcelona and the French border parallel to the AP-7 motorway .
The sections that were not expanded to form the A-2 motorway were rededicated as the Carretera Nacional N-IIa . These are the sections at Castellnou de Seana , Cervera and the Castellolí - Els Hostalets de Pierola and Barcelona- Montgat routes .
