NGT DXDD represents N iederflur g élénk t railcars D rehgestell 10 axes type Dresden . It belongs to the third generation of low-floor railways in Dresden. Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe will purchase 30 of these railcars by 2023, and the contract includes an option for a further 10 railways. The cars are manufactured by Bombardier Transportation in the Bautzen and Görlitz plants and, like the second generation cars ( NGT D12DD and NGT D8DD ), belong to the Flexity Classic product series . They are the numbers 2901 to 2921 (21 means vehicles , ER) and 2981-2989 (9 bidirectional vehicles carry, ZR).

During road and track construction work in the area of ​​the Dresden tram , the Dresden public transport company has increased the distances between the tracks as part of their light rail concept so that wider vehicles can be procured in the long term. With a width of 2.65 meters, the NGT DXDD are 35 cm wider than the existing vehicles, which means that two seats can generally be arranged next to each other on both sides of the aisle. The new vehicles should first run on line 2, which is already equipped with a track center distance of 3 meters. Later, they will also be used on the heavily frequented lines 3 (after the expansion of Großenhainer Straße ) and 7, with the latter the expansion of Königsbrücker Straße , which has been planned since the mid-1990s, is still ahead. In profile, the tracks are only wider above the edge of the platform, so that existing stops do not have to be converted.

On January 8, 2020, a 1: 1 model of a front railcar was presented to the public for the first time in the Dresden Transport Museum . The vehicles are then manufactured in the Bombardier locations in Görlitz , Bautzen , Vienna and Siegen . The final assembly is planned in Bautzen. The production of the electrical system is planned at VEM Sachsenwerk .

Compared to the first-generation , 30-meter-long articulated multiple unit NGT6DD delivered from 1995–1998 , the 43-meter-long NGT DXDD can accommodate around 100 passengers more and thus normally 290 people. The new vehicles have a 65% low-floor share, in the entry area there is only 280 mm, in the rest of the low-floor area 325 mm, only 530 mm floor height is available above the bogies. Compared to all previous vehicles, the passenger areas are also provided with air conditioning.

The car has 4 motor bogies in the end car and a running bogie in the short middle car. In between there are free-floating connecting parts with a low-floor area. A value of 1.14 m / s² is specified as the starting acceleration and a value of 1.2 m / s² as the braking deceleration. The maximum incline to be climbed is 80 o / oo.
