The NR-43 combat knife ( Russian нож разведчика образца 1943 года, НР-43 reconnaissance knife model 1943 ) is a combat knife of the Red Army . Nowadays it is used by the Russian armed forces . The nickname cherry ( Russian Вишня ) comes from the manufacturer's mark on the blade, a Cyrillic "R" ("Р"), which resembles a cherry on a stem in the manufacturer's font.
History and conception
The NR-43 replaced the NR-40 as a combat knife in the Red Army . The NR-43 should eliminate all of the disadvantages of the NR-40. It was given a plastic handle, as the wooden handles of the NR-40 often splintered and did not prove themselves in practice. The knife was manufactured by various companies, including a. from Slatouster tooling Combine no. 259 " VI Lenin " (SiK) (Златоустовского инструментально завод-комбинат № 259 им. В. И. Ленина (ЗиК)) and the Slatouster Tool and Steel Works no. 391 (Златоустовского инструментально-металлургического завод № 391). The knife resembles its predecessor in many details, so the blade shape has been largely left unchanged. The knife is still in use today by many units of the Russian army .
