The output pattern DP

The DP infantry machine gun from 1924 served as the starting model. Like this, the DA was a gas pressure loader with a rigidly locked bolt in the 7.62 x 54 mm R caliber . Degtjarjow already took into account the future use in aircraft with the DP and adapted the MG to the new requirements. So the DA got a pistol grip and a new, upwardly curved shoulder rest in order to take up as little space as possible. The cartridges were again fed through an attached plate magazine that held 63 (DP 47/49) cartridges. Under the ejection there was a collecting bag for the cartridge cases so that they could not get jammed behind the Bowden cables of the tail unit. Troop testing began in early 1927 and was completed the following year

use

Well-known types of aircraft that were equipped with the DA were the Polikarpow R-5 and Po-2 and the Tupolev - bomber series TB-1 , R-6 and TB-3 . The plate magazine often caused problems in use, as it tended to jam. According to Soviet sources, 1200 DA had been built by March 30, 1930, and 1000 more were in production. From 1934 the DA machine guns were gradually replaced by the SchKAS , which achieved a higher rate of fire.
