Lists on the subject |
The Gorjunow SG-43 ( Stankowy pulemjot Konstrukzii Gorjunowa , Russian Станковый пулемёт конструкции Горюнова , СГ-43 for short ) is a machine gun that was developed and used in the Soviet Union during the Second World War .
history
In the 1930s, the Russian version of the Maxim machine gun , the PM 1910 , was still the Red Army's most widely used machine gun . Newer models like the Degtjarjow DS-39 proved to be not reliable enough. Out of necessity, the M1910 continued to be produced until 1942, although it was long out of date. The latest developments in modern machine guns in the USSR were tested in comparative shooting in 1943, and the most suitable weapon was the construction of Pyotr Maximovich Gorjunov .
After the war, the MG was manufactured under license in Poland, China, Czechoslovakia and Hungary.
technology
The air-cooled SG-43 was a lot lighter than the Maxim, which still needed water cooling. It was also easier to manufacture and with far less material, which accelerated the start of production and delivery to the troops. The barrel is fixed, and it is locked using a breech block that swings out to the left after the shot has been fired. In the manufacturing process, the MG was continuously improved, in 1945 the SGM model appeared, which offered a longer service life and was better protected against dirt. The SGM remained in the service of the Soviet armed forces until 1960 when it was replaced by the MG Kalashnikov PK .
