The Norwegian steam locomotive series NSB Type 15 was sold between 1896 and 1901 by Thunes mekaniske in Oslo , Hamar Jernstøberi in Hamar , the Swiss locomotive and machine works in Winterthur , the Saxon machine works Hartmann in Chemnitz , Dübs and Company in Glasgow and Nylands mekaniske in Oslo built in 16 copies in different versions for Norges Statsbaner . Three locomotives were converted from the Type 11a and Type 11b series .

The supplied wet steam - composite steam locomotives were equipped with a Walschaerts control .

history

The NSB Type 15 steam locomotive series was a further development of the NSB Type 11 . While the 11 was a wet steam locomotive with a two-axle tender in the original version , the 15 received a three-axle tender. In later years the series was refined again as NSB Type 21 .

They were all freight locomotives , but with the drive wheel diameter of 1,448 mm, they could be used for medium-speed passenger trains. The locomotives were light and therefore particularly widespread on branch lines. They were also used on main lines up to the First World War .

Conversions

The locomotives were created at a time when there was continuous progress in the technical field. As a result, some of the locomotives were rebuilt several times during their service life and sorted into new sub-assemblies. Over the years most of them have been converted into superheated steam locomotives. The compound engine was dispensed with during further conversion work, which again resulted in additional sub-types. In addition, three type 11 locomotives received three -axle tenders and were then referred to as type 15 (d, f and h). The deliveries consisted of five 15a , one 15b and ten 15c , all other sub-series were created through renovations.

NSB type 15a

Type: 1'C-3 n2v:

15a 60 was supplied as a prototype by Dübs and Company as early as 1896 . In 1898 the locomotive was given the new number 15a 105 . The locomotives with the numbers 15a 106 and 15a 121 , which were supplied from Germany, followed in 1899 . The third series were numbers 15a 122 and 15a 123 from Nyland . The 15a 123 was converted into the sub-series 15f in 1924 and the 15a 122 in 1928 .

NSB type 15b

Type: 1'C-3 n2v:

The 15b 104 supplied by Dübs was put into operation on February 2, 1899. It was the only locomotive of this type and was converted in March 1921 into Type 15d , a superheated steam locomotive with a compound drive .

NSB type 15c

NSB 15c 125

Type: 1'C-3 n2v:

These ten wet steam locomotives were delivered and put into operation in 1901 and 1902. This ended the delivery of the Type 15 .

The 15c 110, 125, 126, 127, 139, 141 and 143 remained in their original condition until they were retired between 1935 and 1950. The last operating locomotive was the 15c 110 , which was retired on June 2, 1950.

From the 15c 142 , the superheated steam composite variant with the type 1'C-3 h2v and the road number 15e 142 was developed in 1922 , in 1923 the 15c 124 followed as the new 15e 124 and it was not until 1940 that the 15c 140 was converted into the 15e 140 .

NSB type 15d

Type 1'C-3 h2v:

The 15d 104 , which emerged from the 15b 104 in March 1921, and the 15d 83 , which emerged from the 11f 83 in November 1931 , were sorted into this series . The 15d 83 was rebuilt in November 1941 into the type 1'C-3 h2 without compound engine with the number 15f 83 .

15d 104 was retired on November 9, 1935.

NSB Type 15e

Type 1'C-3 h2v:

Consisting of the 15 c 124 , 15c 140 , and 15c 142 formed locomotives 15e 124 , 15e 140 and 15e 142 were all converted again: from 15e 124 was 1929 15g 124 , from 15e 140 1927 15f 140 and out of the 15e 142 1928 15f 142 , all now without a compound engine. The 140 locomotive was retired in 1955 and the 142 in 1952.

The 15g 124 was also converted into the 15e class in 1932 , and was retired on May 28, 1954.

NSB type 15f

Type 1'C-3 h2:

The 15 122 in 1928 and 15 123 in 1924 to 15f 122 and 15f 123 , 15g 124 was 1932 in the 15f 124 rebuilt. From 15e 140 was 1927 15f 140 and out of the 15e 142 1928 15f 142 . All locomotives lost their compound drive during these conversions. 15d 83 , the previous 11f 83 was converted in November 1941 into the type 1'C-3 h2 without compound engine with the number 15f 83 . This was the last of the series in use until September 6, 1956.

NSB type 15g

Type 1'C-3 h2:

The 15g 124 , which was created in 1929 from 15e 124 , was converted into the 15f 124 in 1932 .

NSB type 15h

Type 1'C-3 h2:

By replacing the two-axle tender on locomotives 11e 64 and 11e 65 with a three-axle tender, the 15h 64 and 15h 65 were created , which remained in service until 1935 and 1947.

Used by Norges Statsbaner

The 15c 125 ordered for the Hell – Sunnanbanen was delivered to the Ofotbane directly from the factory in February 1902 . On loan from NSB District 4 ( Trondheim ), she drove the Norwegian train to Riksgrensen on November 15, 1902 to celebrate the unification of the Norwegian and Swedish parts of the Kiruna - Narvik - Fagernes line .
