Naïn ( Arabic نين Na'in , literally 'adorable'; Hebrew ניין Najin ) is a small town mentioned in the New Testament of the Bible only in the Gospel of Luke .
Biblical narration
In Naïn, according to Lk 7 : 11-17 EU, Jesus of Nazareth is said to have brought a deceased young man to life in front of his already widowed mother. The biblical story is usually dubbed The Young Man of Naïn .
Location of Naïn
Naïn is located about 20 km southwest of the Sea of Galilee and 7 km southwest of Mount Tabor , in a mountainous region on the southern border of Galilee and Samaria . Jesus himself must have passed Naïn when he was coming from Capernaum to Nazareth (10 km northwest of Naïn).
In 1880, the Franciscans built a church in Naïn to commemorate Jesus' raising from the dead . Today Naïn is still a small town frequented by tourists, despite the fame it enjoys for its history.
According to the 1931 census, there were 189 people in Naïn, all of them Muslims , in 34 houses. In 2018 there were 1845 inhabitants.
