There is more than one renegade in this modern journey to the east . However, the manageable tour company, gradually growing to six participants, does not leave the basement of a hotel high-rise under construction. Voss, called "the snoop" in the list of people, falls outside the category of the bizarre new morning country drivers because he is pretty normal. The snoop foresees that as soon as the hotel is ready, the company will be driven from the basement. In addition, Voss does not want to match the picture of the morning driver: When the criminal case happened (see below), he called the police. It is also Voss who the Jerusalem traveler Rose with the red cap - also called the Rose of Saron - greets first in the cellar. Rose says she once worked for a while as a kitchen helper in a luxury hotel. But the fake Doctor Otto is shot in vigilante justice by the meteor, who doesn't want a police in the house, while fleeing. Meteor, the fifth Jerusalem travelers, a homeless man , who is covered with newspapers, has the Wehrmacht 's revolver his father, the court president stolen. The father had wanted a man of action, who would one day break out like a meteor , as a son. When that failed, his father accused him of wasting time. Then Meteor went naked through the city and never returned home.

Despite a dead person on the basement stairs, everything will be fine. At the end of the piece, Hänschen suddenly “miraculously” had his eyesight again. Hänschen beams as if he were taking a look at the "promised city" of Jerusalem from the hotel basement.

Finally, Dagmar enters the basement from the penthouse . Dagmar - like Voss - can hardly be on the journey to the Orient. The attractive young lady, perhaps the chief secretary, just wants to break out of her office world, but flees the hotel basement at the first opportunity. Dagmar registers facts quite soberly: The hotel basement stinks. Dagmar recognizes Rose as the “crazy woman from Bahnhofstrasse” and goes into a clinch with her until she is exhausted . Rose had attacked Dagmar first. The cause may have been Rose's insurmountable aversion to the obviously middle-class Dagmar. Rose is difficult to see through at all. For example, the woman poses as a Jew . Otto, the wrong doctor, questions this during his lifetime. Rose finally backs down after Meteor also doubts it.
