Nadia Kevan

Nadia Kevan (* 1955 ) is an English dancer , dance teacher , choreographer and movement teacher . She lives in Nijmegen , the Netherlands , and has been teaching at the Folkwang University in Essen , now Folkwang University of the Arts , since 1993 .

Life

Kevan studied classical ballet , modern dance, dance pedagogy and voice training in England . From 1973 she was in Germany , where she danced for various stages and worked as a freelance dancer and dance teacher in Hamburg . In the tradition of Mary Wigman and Gret Palucca , she gave her own solo dance evenings. In 1981 she came into contact with the Alexander Technique in London and then completed a. a. trained as an Alexander teacher with Karen Wentworth and Chris Stevens, which she supplemented in London with further training with Walter Carrington . She has been teaching the Alexander Technique herself since 1987. Her experiences from this movement theory have also flowed into joint performances with Monika Bartholomé in Europe , the USA , Israel and Australia .

In 1993 she received a professorship for kinetics and body awareness at the Folkwang University of Applied Sciences in Essen , now the Folkwang University of the Arts. Since 1998 she has also been working with the director Frank Steckel as an Alexander Technique teacher at German theaters. In 2000 she founded the Open Space Theater as a training center for the Alexander Technique in her home town of Cologne . Since 2005, Nadia Kevan has been working with the singing lecturer and Alexander teacher Ron Murdock in her lectures on the Alexander Technique at home and abroad. Together they run a dance center for the Alexander Technique in Nijmegen.

As part of the artistic activities of the Folkwang University, Nadia Kevan is often involved in artistic and dance projects. In collaboration with the composer Dirk Reith and the recorder player Ulrike Volkhardt , Nadia Kervan developed the performance Un Lay de Consolation , which, based on forms of the medieval mystery play, combines elements of early music with electronic sounds and dance elements.

As a choreographer, she took part in dance projects as part of the 1996 Berlin International Dance Festival, which sought new forms of artistic expression in the combination of dance, theater, architecture and the fine arts.

In addition to her work as a dancer and artist, Nadia Kevan also developed dance-based religious prayer meditations. She also developed concepts for the integration of dance elements in church services , with which she a. was invited to the 29th Evangelical Church Congress 2001 in Frankfurt.

Her artistic activities in recent years included u. a. the opening performance Follow the Feet of the Labyrinth Ruhrgebiet project in Ense 2007 and the choreography of the performance Osiris - Talking to the Dead at the Munich Biennale 2008 and in the Zeche Zollverein in January 2009.
