Nadine - Star of the Seine ( Jap. ラ·セーヌの星 , Ra senu [= La Seine] no Hoshi ) is a Japanese anime - TV series from 1975. Although the series as in some languages The Black Tulip was marketed and one of the Both heroes bears this name, there is no connection to the novel The Black Tulip by Alexandre Dumas.

Nadine Lorraine (Japanese Simone Lorrain) lives in France at the time of the Rococo . She grew up the daughter of a florist, but when the Marquis de Vaudreuil discovered her, he adopted Nadine just before her parents died in an accident. It turns out that Nadine is actually the illegitimate daughter of a nobleman. In order to hide her, she now grows up with the Marquis, who also trains her in martial arts. Soon she turns into the clever freedom fighter "Star of the Seine" at night, who fights against the French army to liberate the citizens and to fight against poverty. She wears a face mask and uses a sword.
She also wants to take revenge for her deceased parents who were killed by the thugs of Marie-Antoinette and Louis XVI. were killed. She is supported by Armand, who has been active as the “Black Tulip” for a long time. Her adventures lead her to the French court again and again and so Nadine finally learns that Marie-Antoinette is her half-sister. To hide this, she and her foster parents were also persecuted while others try to solve the mystery. Then Nadine is drawn into the turmoil of the French Revolution . She wants to continue helping the oppressed people, but also takes in the Queen's children to protect them.
Production and publication
The series was produced in 1975 in Japan by Studio Sunrise . This resulted in 39 episodes. The writer wrote Soji Yoshikawa . Directed by Masaaki führtesumi and from episode 27 Yoshiyuki Tomino . The character design is by Akio Sugino and the music was composed by Shunsuke Kikuchi . The opening credits are La Seine no Hoshi by Mitsuko Horie and Columbia Yurikago Kai and the credits are underlaid with the song Watashi wa Simone ( 私 は シ モ ー ヌ , Watashi wa Shimōnu ), also by Mitsuko Horie and Columbia Yurikago Kai.
The series first aired on Fuji TV from April 4, 1975 through December 26, 1975 . The German first broadcast took place on July 27, 1998 on RTL 2 . The anime was also shown on Korean, French, Spanish, Italian and Taiwanese television.

reception
The series had some success in Europe, albeit with a lot of historical inaccuracies - unlike The Roses of Versailles from the same period. Along with this, it is also one of the first anime series with masked superheroes.
