Namibia Commercial Aviation ( NCA for short ) was a Namibian airline based in Windhoek and based at Eros Airport . Active flight operations were discontinued in 2010.
history
Namibia Commercial Aviation was founded in 1992 as the successor to Hire & Fly , which was founded in 1977 . She had mainly offered tourist charter flights in Namibia. The last two Douglas DC-6B passenger aircraft from Zambia were bought for this purpose in 1992 . Until then, they were used there as VIP machines, including for President Kenneth Kaunda . The founder of NCA, Chris Schutte, restored the machines in 1994 and 1997 and since then has been offering tourist air travel through Namibia.
In 2000, due to financial difficulties, the Douglas DC-6B "Fish Eagle" with the aircraft registration V5-NCF (serial number: 45563) was sold to Flying Bulls in Austria .
The founder of NCA, Chris Schutte, died at the age of 71 on November 5, 2010, which is why the last machine is to be sold due to financial problems (as of February 2011).
In 2010, the Namibian civil aviation authority withdrew its operating license from the airline's last machine; it not only required the installation of a cockpit voice recorder for this historic machine , but also other modern instruments, such as a collision warning system . Because it would also have been necessary to replace all the cables, the conversion would have cost several million Namibian dollars, which the airline could not afford.
In January 2011 the DC-6B “Bateleur” (V5-NCG) was supposed to fly from Windhoek to Australia and be there for three months on the continent; however, for various reasons this was not possible. The DC-6B "Bateleur" was supposed to be sold to the USA in May 2018, which ultimately failed. The machine is still at Eros Airport (as of September 2019) and has not been airworthy since at least June 2015.
