Nana Bryant

Nana Bryant (born November 23, 1888 in Cincinnati , Ohio , † December 24, 1955 in Hollywood , California ) was an American actress .

Life

Nana Bryant began her acting career with various regional theater groups. She made her debut on Broadway in October 1925, and over the next ten years she played there in eleven plays. She mainly appeared in musical comedies. In the mid-1930s she appeared in first Hollywood films . In supporting roles, she embodied mostly friendly and understanding characters in over 100 films, often mothers or wives. Only occasionally did she play unsympathetic roles, for example as a grim murderess in the Western Eyes of Texas with Roy Rogers .

She had one of her best roles as the wife of a resistance fighter in Fritz Lang's anti-Nazi drama The Executioner , and she played Mrs. Chumley in the 1950 comedy My Friend Harvey . For Disney , she starred in the 1941 original version of the cartoon The Dragon against her will as a spokeswoman. Bryant also played the title character in Goodbye, Miss Turlock , a short film about an old school teacher that won an Oscar for Best Short Film in 1948 . In the 1950s she withdrew noticeably from the film business and still had a few television roles. Nana Byrant, whose private life is unknown, died on Christmas 1955 at the age of 67.
