Nancy Kelly (born March 25, 1921 in Lowell , Massachusetts , † January 2, 1995 in Bel Air , Los Angeles , California ) was an American film and stage actress . She starred in her first film at the age of five and gained her first stage experience at the age of ten. In 1957 she nominated the Academy for an Oscar for the leading role in Böse Saat . From the mid-1950s, she mainly played guest roles in television series. A star on that remembers Nancy KellyWalk of Fame .

Life

Nancy Kelly was the younger sister of the actor Jack Kelly . Kelly attended school at the Bentley School for Girls and at the Saint Lawrence Academy in Santa Clarita, California . She has been in front of the camera since she was five. Her debut was the social drama The Untamed Lady from 1926. Five years later, in 1931, she appeared on Broadway for the first time .

Kelly, who was signed by 20th Century Fox , managed to impress in both film and theater. In 1955 she received the Tony Award for her role in the play The Bad Seed . When the play was adapted into a film a year later, in 1956, Kelly could be engaged again and was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Actress in 1957 . Another well-known film in which Kelly was convincing was the western Jesse James, Man Without a Law, produced in 1939 . From the mid-1950s, Nance Kelly hardly received any film offers. Since then, she has mainly been seen as a guest actress in television series. These became known mainly in the USA.

Nancy Kelly was married three times. So she married the actor Edmond O'Brien in February 1941 ; the divorce took place a year later, in February 1942. Between 1946 and 1950 Kelly was married to the cameraman Fred Jackman Jr. , and most recently from 1955 to 1968 with the theater producer Warren Caro . In all cases, the marriage ended in divorce. With Caro, Kelly had their only child, daughter Kelly Caro, in January 1957. She died in 1995, at the age of 73, of complications from her diabetes mellitus . Today a star on the Walk of Fame commemorates the actress.
