Napoléon Achille Murat (born January 21, 1801 in Paris , †  April 15, 1847 in Wasceissa , Jefferson County , Florida ) was the eldest son of Joachim Murat , King of Naples, an officer and temporarily Prince of Berg and Prince of Naples .

Life

Napoléon Achille Murat was the son of Joachim Murat and Caroline Bonaparte , the youngest sister of Napoléon Bonaparte . The birth of Napoleon Franz Bonaparte destroyed his mother's hope that he could succeed her brother. So she allied herself with Napoleon's enemy, Clemens von Metternich , who tried in vain in 1815 to save Joachim Murat's throne. The former king of Naples was shot dead on October 13, 1815 in Pizzo in Calabria by order of the Bourbon king Ferdinand IV .

After the death of his father, Napoléon Achille Murat went with his mother to Frohsdorf in Lower Austria , where he received a good education. He went to the United States in 1821 , became an American citizen, and bought a large farm near Tallahassee , Florida . Since 1824 Murat held several public offices, so he was elected mayor of the place. Among other things, he served as a militia officer under Richard Keith Call . On July 30, 1826, Murat married Catherine Willis Gray, a great-niece of George Washington . They lived a secluded life with no children and left their fortunes to charitable organizations.

Some sources report that Murat participated in the Belgian Revolution of 1830 as an officer in the Belgian service .
