places

The Napoli Teatro Festival Italia takes place all over the greater Naples area. Performances take place not only in many municipal theaters such as the Teatro di San Carlo , the Teatro Bellini or the Mercadante - Teatro Stabile di Napoli , but also in places that were otherwise not used as a theater, including the Real Albergo dei Poveri (as a already typical place of the festival) and other occasional stages such as the Darsena Acton , the roof of the art academy , in the basement of the city, in churches and in front of monuments.

Theater workshops

Since its first edition, the Napoli Teatro Festival Italia has devoted great attention to theatrical training, with the preparation of workshops led by some of the main characters of the festival. In 2008, a workshop was organized in collaboration with the London National Theater Studio , led by four dramaturges and directors from Italy and England: a collaboration between the actors Manlio Santanelli , the Scottish director Matthew Lenton , the dramaturge Timberlakewertebaker and the director Claudio Di Palma . The circle of participants expanded in 2009 with the productions of Napoli non si misura con la mente ( Naples cannot be measured with the mind ) by Manlio Santanelli and Interiors by Matthew Lenton. In 2009 the workshops were led by Teatro de los Sentidos , Matthias Langhoff , Nidal Al Ackhar and Lukas Hemleb . Among the participating artists were the Teatro de los Sentidos by Enrique Vargas - who already distinguished himself with the play Cosa deve fare Napoli per rimanere in equilibrio sopra un uovo ( What does Naples have to do to keep the balance on an egg ) - and Matthias Langhoff, who took care of Paradise of Working , a directing workshop on the subject of work that took place between Berlin and Naples. Nidal Al Ackhar, who participated in the 2009 festival with In front of the Embassy gate the night was long , organized a workshop on techniques and possibilities of improvisation. Finally, Lukas Hemleb was also invited to organize 1003 (mille e tre) - a theater workshop dedicated to the figure of Don Giovanni , which William Nadylam and the European Ensemble also worked on.

The E45 Napoli Fringe Festival

In 2009, on the initiative of the festival, the E45 Napoli Fringe Festival was born, an “off” festival which, like various other international equivalents, supports promising authors and directors. The Neapolitan Fringe Festival takes its name from the E45 , the road that runs from Finland via Naples to Sicily . In the first year of E45 , 27 performances from a large selection of proposals were staged in various theaters in the city. Two of the performances were selected for 2010. At the E45 Fringe Festival 2010, 39 performances were staged among the more than 250 original projects presented.

environmental Protection

The Napoli Teatro Festival Italia achieved the standards of “eco-durability” and environmental compatibility. Since its first year, the festival complied with the ISO 14001 standard and the EMAS regulation . The sustainability of the festival is guaranteed by monitoring the environmental impact of its activities (from the way the offices work to the implementation of the scenes, from the management of traffic and construction sites to energy consumption and other environmentally harmful factors). The festival also uses solar energy, which is produced by a photoelectric power plant.

The European ensemble

The European Ensemble was born in 2008 on the initiative of the Napoli Teatro Festival Italia as a working project on languages and topics of multiculturalism and encounters among different theater traditions. It is not a permanent theater company, but an ensemble of actors from different countries, in which everyone plays in their own language. Every year the project is assigned to a new director; its aim is to stage a performance supported and produced by Napoli Teatro Festival Italia. In 2008, under the direction of Virginio Liberti and Annalisa Bianco, the Compagnia Teatrale Europea staged Die Troerinnen von Euripides. In 2009, the task was assigned to David Lescot , who wrote and directed L'Européenne . It is a play that was produced together with the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris . In 2010 the English director Alexander Zeldin directed Romeo and Juliet . The performance was produced in collaboration with the National Theater Studio (London) and the Teatro Stabile di Napoli , as well as with Italian and English artists as well as with second generation immigrant citizens who have been a community living in Italy for many years.
