Narvin Kimball

Narvin Kimball (born March 2, 1910 in New Orleans , Louisiana , † March 17, 2006 ) was an American musician of New Orleans jazz .

Narvin was the son of Henry Kimball and the pianist Jeannette Kimball and became a musician; he worked as a banjo player and bassist, but also sang. In the 1930s, Kimball was not making enough money from his music and had to work as a postman. He only played again after the Jazz Revival in New Orleans and worked as a band leader until the mid-1950s and toured Europe and the USA.

He was the last living member of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band . At the age of 57 he became a member of the band and at that point had been a postman for 35 years. Willie Humphrey , Percy Humphrey , Dede Pierce , Billie Pierce , Jim Robinson , Cie Frasier , Kid Thomas Valentine and George Lewis played in the band .
