The Nashua River is a right tributary of the Merrimack River in the US states of Massachusetts and New Hampshire .
River course
The Nashua River forms the drain of the Wachusett Reservoir - about 50 km west of Boston . From there it flows in a predominantly north-northeast direction. At Clinton , the North Nashua River meets the river coming from the northwest. It continues its course north-northeast and passes Pepperell , crosses the border into New Hampshire and flows into the Merrimack River at Nashua . In Nashua, Mine Falls Park is along the riverbank. There is a mill canal that runs south.
The Nashua River has a length of 90 km. The last ten miles of the river is in New Hampshire. The Nashua River drains an area of 1,377 km², of which 1,162 km² are in Massachusetts. Part of the water in its catchment area is used to supply the greater Boston area with drinking water and is withdrawn from the river system.
Hydropower plants
In Pepperell, Swift River Hydro Operations Company (SRHOCO) operates a hydroelectric power plant with an installed capacity of 1920 kW (3 units). The Mine Falls hydropower plant with 2 units and a total output of 3 MW is located above Nashua . There is another hydropower plant on the Nashua River in central Nashua.
