Nasta Pino

Nasta Pino (born July 1, 1934 in Usinitsa , † December 15, 2017 in Tartu ) was an Estonian writer and journalist .

Life

Pino graduated from high school in Tartu in 1953 and studied Estonian philology at the University of Tartu from 1953 to 1958 , with Juhan Peegel among others . After graduating, she was an editor at a district newspaper in Elva , Komsomol secretary for several years and from 1963 to 1983 correspondent for the daily newspapers “Noorte Hääl” and “Edasi”. Since 1983 she lived as a freelance writer in Tartu.

Nasta Pino had been a member of the Estonian Writers' Union since 1995 .

As a journalist, Pino mainly wrote reports on rural life and agriculture.

She made her debut as a writer with poems and short stories in magazines and had her greatest success with the novel Every Evening in Solenzara , with which she won the 1985 novel competition. In, the narrator reflects on her return to the countryside after living in the city for years. In this “reportage novel” the “basic values ​​of life in changing times” are dealt with; the novel is also characterized by a rigid “anti-war pathos”, since the childhood of the first person falls during the Second World War . In this respect, the author is comparable to Aimée Beekman .
