The Nathan-Söderblom Church of the Evangelical Lutheran Parish Reinbek-West in Reinbek in the south of Schleswig-Holstein ( Stormarn district ) is the church for the districts of Hinschendorf , Wildenhof and Klosterbergen .

building

Exterior view

The construction of the church, parish hall, pastorate and a sexton apartment began in 1966 based on designs by the Hamburg architect Friedhelm Grundmann . In 1968 the community center was completed in its current form. For financial reasons, Grundmann's plans have not yet been fully implemented.

The building, built in the traditional east-west direction, has practically no windows on the south side bordering a market. It is also windowless to the east and west. The church is characterized by clear geometric shapes that reveal the function of the individual components from the outside. The bell tower protrudes from the tower to the north and west, which is connected to the nave by a bridge . To the south, the semicircular side gallery protrudes towards the market . The anteroom is much lower in front of the main nave in the west. A skylight lantern extends the building upwards. The staircase to the organ gallery can be clearly seen on the north side as a semicircular component. The baptistery is attached to the cube on the side of the altar on the east side, facing the north . The only large window faces north into a leafy inner courtyard, which is enclosed by administration rooms and the community hall.

inner space

When you enter the church through the main entrance on the west, looks out directly onto the chancel which is three concrete levels above the nave level. The altar , pulpit and baptismal font are also cast from concrete. The nave is divided into a main nave with two aisles by side columns made of concrete. Four altar candlesticks, crucifix, baptismal font and the lectern made of copper-plated steel were designed by Hans-Werner Peters, who deliberately portrayed the figure of Christ crucified as a victim of violence in memory of the Holocaust.

“A chandelier hangs over the altar. The gnarled crown of thorns and spiked wreath absorbs the pain and suffering of the cross. But it does not remain in the dark, but is illuminated to the triumphal crown, leads from Good Friday to Easter . "

organ

Ahrend organ from 1972

The organ was built in 1972 by Jürgen Ahrend as his Opus 75. The prospectus was designed by Grundmann and takes up the modern design language of the church interior and the red color scheme of the pews. The organ reproduces the north German baroque organ as a style copy. This applies to the construction of the pipes as well as to the mechanical action mechanism and the historical tuning ( Werckmeister III modified). The slider chest instrument has 19 registers , which are divided into two manuals and pedal. The playing and stop actions are mechanical.

Bells

On 17 December 1967, the four major were cast steel - bells hung in the bell tower. They were cast by the Bochumer Verein , which at that time already belonged to Krupp AG .

At 1080 kg, the A flat major bell is the heaviest. It has a diameter of 14.25 meters. There are also three smaller bells, an Eb, an F and a B flat minor bell. They weigh 780, 440 and 360 kg. “For the unity of the church” is the motto of the bells and is engraved in the largest bell, the so-called ecumenical bell, which thus refers to the namesake Nathan Söderblom .

The names of the bells are taken from Acts 2.42:

COMMUNITY: for the unity of the Church
APOSTAL DOCTRINE: for spreading the Gospel
PRAYER: for piety in the land
BREADBREAKING: for peace and reconciliation

A fifth bell hangs in front of the portal, the Our Father Bell, which is struck during the Our Father's Church service so that people outside the church can join the prayer .

Others

The church is seen as a landmark by many people from Reinbek, so the local EDEKA store has integrated their image into its logo . A concrete sculpture stands next to the entrance, symbolizing the unity of the church in all its diversity. However, this is unfinished. The collected rainwater on the roof is a huge rain spouts discharged into a concrete sculpture.
