Nathan Nice

Nathan Netter (born January 5, 1866 in Niedernai , † December 15, 1959 in Metz ) was a Franco-German rabbi and politician.

Life

Nathan Netter, son of a cattle dealer, was a student of Isidor Weill in Colmar ; he passed his exam in 1891 before the Consistoire Strasbourg . In 1891 he received his doctorate in Strasbourg.

Netter was married to France Weill.

He was a rabbi in Buchsweiler from 1891 to 1898 and then in Saargemünd . From 1900 to 1954 he was Chief Rabbi of the Consistory of Lorraine in Metz.

After Adolf Ury's death , he was elected a member of the First Chamber of the Landtag of the Reichsland Alsace-Lorraine in 1915 ; he was a member of this until 1918.

He was a participant in the Misrachi and B'nai B'rith conferences.

In 1939, during the Seat War , the French government had civilians evacuated Metz; Netter went to Sanary-sur-Mer . From 1942 to 1944 he lived in Roanne ; then he fled to Saint-Firmin (Hautes-Alpes) .

In 1954 he retired at an advanced age.

Honors

In 1910 Netter was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 4th class . In 1922 he received the Médaille d'or du Souvenir français . In 1931 he became a knight and in 1946 an officer of the Legion of Honor .
