history

This usually includes the founding members Jungle Brothers , Queen Latifah , A Tribe Called Quest , Black Sheep , De La Soul , Brand Nubian / Grand Puba , Monie Love and Black Star . The band Da Bush Babees and the Leaders of the New School were also close to the farce.

A characteristic of this union was to spread a political awareness in the Afro-American society and in hip-hop, which should also extend to the (Afro-American) middle class. Since hip-hop music was previously produced for socially disadvantaged parts of society (e.g. the growing dominance of so-called gangsta rap at the beginning of the 90s), more intellectual content predominated here, which was welcomed by medium-sized society the ghettos and the street were too far away to be well received.

Publications by these groups were usually characterized by very experimental sounds and intellectual lyrics that were in contrast to the dominant gangsta rap .
