Audience at the NaturVision Film Festival 2014 in Ludwigsburg

NaturVision a nature and environment film festival . It originally started in 2002 in Neuschönau in the Bavarian Forest and has been taking place in Ludwigsburg in Baden-Württemberg since 2012 . The venue is the Central Theater Ludwigsburg. Since 2014 there has also been a free open-air cinema, a market with regional and sustainable stalls, information stands and a science slam during the festival days.

The festival

Film competition

The heart of the festival is the international film competition. In addition to nature and animal films, the festival places a strong emphasis on environmental and sustainability issues. In addition to the “German Environmental and Sustainability Film Prize”, the “German Wildlife Film Prize” and the “German Biodiversity Film Prize” are awarded by NaturVision - prizes in other categories such as camera, dramaturgy, film music, children's film and the audience award are part of the competition categories and the award ceremony. In 2017, prize money totaling 46,000 euros was awarded in five prize categories for the first time.

Special topic

Every year the festival is dedicated to a certain special topic that is presented in films, lectures and special events. In recent years, the focus has been on topics such as “Soil & Water” or renewable energy. Since 2015, under the motto “Islands of the Future”, solutions to global problems have been sought and presented in a cycle lasting several years.

Environmental education

Another area of activity of the NaturVision Film Festival is youth environmental education. In the run-up to the festival, there are school programs in many cities in Baden-Württemberg to which experts or filmmakers are invited. At the youth media workshops “Film and Talk”, experts show school classes films on sustainable topics, while the teacher workshops teach the basics of media work with children and young people. During the festival days, in addition to the school program and childcare, a children's film program for all ages is offered. In the film competition, a special youth jury chooses their favorite and presents their decision at the big award gala. In order to fight at the cultural-political level to ensure that environmental education can be pursued through the festival, NaturVision was also one of the founding members of the Association of Bavarian Film Festivals in 2014.

Industry get-together and best-of events

The festival also functions as an industry get-together that offers workshops and opportunities for meeting filmmakers, media representatives and other cultural workers. Producers and filmmakers have the opportunity to come into contact with one another and with the audience. NaturVision is committed to supporting and promoting the nature and environmental film genre. For example, best-of events, which take place primarily in Switzerland, serve this purpose.

Photo competition "Natural treasures of Europe"

Together with Euronatur , the magazine natur and Gelsenwasser , NaturVision is promoting the photo competition “Natural Treasures of Europe”. The results are summarized every year in the exhibition “Fascination Nature”, which can be seen in various locations.

history

NaturVision was launched in 2002 by Ralph Thoms and took place every year in the Bavarian Forest National Park in Neuschönau. Due to the location's proximity to the border, there has been a cooperation with the Czech city of Vimperk since the beginning of the festival .

As early as 2008 - as part of the Sino-German Year of Science and Education - a cooperation with China began . In the workshops of the NaturVision Film Festival, an exchange between German and Chinese filmmakers took place for the first time.

In 2012, the festival changed its location for financial reasons and started again in Ludwigsburg in Baden-Württemberg. In the metropolitan region around Stuttgart it has been growing steadily since then and was able to record over 13,000 spectators in 2016. The venue for the festival is the Central Theater Ludwigsburg. The comprehensive supporting program extends to the entire city - from the open air on Arsenalplatz to the NaturVision Science Slam, which will be held in 2015 in the film gallery of the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy and from 2017 in the rooms of the Ludwigsburg State Archives.

In the Bavarian Forest there has been the NaturVision Film Days since 2012, which take place in the Hans-Eisenmann-Haus in Neuschönau. In addition to the highlights of the festival in Ludwigsburg, the HeimatSachen series also presents films that are of particular interest to the region. The special thing about the film days is the location's proximity to nature; films about nature in nature - more precisely an open-air cinema set up in the forest - are presented. NaturVision also conducts environmental education for young people in the Bavarian Forest: the ideas competition “School film: Of course!” Is organized together with Bayernwerk AG ; A school program before and during the competition invites schoolchildren to find out more about the environment and sustainability.
