The nature reserve Baljåsen ( Swedish Baljåsen naturreservat ) is a nature reserve in the Swedish province of Västra Götalands län , in the area of ​​the municipality of Åmål . In addition to numerous forests, rare and sometimes endangered plants and animals, the nature reserve also features the highest mountain in the historic Dalsland province , Baljåsen, at 301 meters .

Due to the nutrient-rich and calcareous soils, there are numerous plants and herbs such as St. Christopher's herb or woodruff . There are also some rare and endangered plants such as the field wreath . The forest in this area is very diverse. There are coniferous forests with spruce and pine . Deciduous forests with oak , aspen , birch , ash , linden , maple and elm . There are also numerous mixed forests .

fauna

Because of the lush flora, there is also a diverse wildlife. Many of the birds are rare and are on the red list of endangered species , such as the white-backed woodpecker .

The nature reserve is part of the EU ecological network of nature reserves, Natura 2000 .
